Word of Life Gospel Church Responds to Ghana News Monthly
We are responding to your article about our Pastor, Maxwell Asenso which you published on your website “ghananewsmonthly.com”. We hope you will publish this rebuttal in its entirety.
We are saddened, amazed and in utter disbelief the kind of story written and the picture painted about our pastor Maxwell Asenso and our Church. We have a good church and our Pastor is a good and upright man. Everybody in the church can attest to this fact and you associating him with an infidelity with a church member, is just incredulous and mind boggling.
You have really indeed gone too far with no factual basis. In your over zealousness to demonize him, assassinate his character and tarnish his hard won reputation and destroy the church of which he is the Senior Pastor; you twisted facts, fabricated stories all in attempt to sensationalize and sell your newspaper. I guess you succeeded at least in your little mind. But be rest assured that this article has just served to strengthen the resolve of the entire membership of Word of Life Gospel church to serve our God faithfully under the spiritual guidance and direction of Pastor Maxwell Asenso; because we know him better than you do, and your characterization of him in your article can best be described as misleading and scrupulous, but remember that only God has the final say
The False Ghanaian History Of Paa Kwesi Nduom
I don’t quite know whom he intends to bamboozle with his flagrantly false presentation of modern Ghanaian history, but anytime that I have had the misfortune of reading his patently false Nkrumaist approach to Ghanaian history, I have also been very thankful that Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom had chosen to study economics and business management in college, rather than African Studies or African History. I am also especially glad that his rather crude and regressive attempt at reviving and re-imposing Nkrumaist dictatorship on Ghanaians was met with resonant rejection during the country’s most recent “conversation” at the polls, particularly the further remarkable erosion of the hitherto piddling modicum of electoral support that the rump-Convention People’s Party (CPP) possessed in the lead-up to Election 2008. Indeed, what the landmark Obama visit symbolically represents, if nothing at all, is the sonorous fact that the era of the “One-Man Messianic Adventure” is decidedly behind Ghanaians.

Results of our Opinion Poll on the state of affairs in Ghana at July 1, 2009
Readers opinion is very clear on some points, fuzzy at best in others.
A majority do not think Mills is in charge of affairs in Ghana, 2 out of 3 see the hand of JJ in the background, a clear majority do not like the direction Ghana is going, nearly 40% of Ghanaians in the Diaspora plan on staying abroad in the near future and an overwhelming 71% think it is time for JJ to back away from Ghana politics.

Obama speaks, Africa listens
US President Barack Obama, on his first trip to sub-Saharan Africa since taking office, has said Africa must take charge of its own destiny in the world. Mr Obama told parliament in Ghana during a one-day stay that good governance was vital for development. Major challenges awaited Africans in the new century, he said, but vowed that the US would help the continent. The US president’s trip came at the end of a summit of eight of the world’s most powerful nations, held in Italy. Ghana was chosen as the destination for the president’s visit because of its strong democratic record. After his speech, Mr Obama headed to Cape Coast Castle, a seaside fortress converted to the slave trade by the British in the 17th Century. He was accompanied by his wife, Michelle, a descendant of African slaves, and both of his young daughters.
Memo to President Obama
Re: What You Should Tell Ghanaians and Africans
Thank you Mr. President for the honor done my motherland by making it your first destination on your “homecoming” trip to your ancestral continent since you became the first Black President of the United States of America. The biggest and loudest Kpanlogo and fontonfrom drums will pipe you and First Lady Michelle to a rapturous AKWAABA. The cheers would be thunderous and the smiles that will greet you brighter than the glow of a full moon.

Full text of Obama speech to Parliament
Good morning. It is an honor for me to be in Accra, and to speak to the representatives of the people of Ghana. I am deeply grateful for the welcome that I’ve received, as are Michelle, Malia and Sasha Obama. Ghana’s history is rich, the ties between our two countries are strong, and I am proud that this is my first visit to sub-Saharan Africa as President of the United States. I am speaking to you at the end of a long trip. I began in Russia, for a Summit between two great powers. I traveled to Italy, for a meeting of the world’s leading economies. And I have come here, to Ghana, for a simple reason: the 21st century will be shaped by what happens not just in Rome or Moscow or Washington, but by what happens in Accra as well.
Pastor Batters His Wife to the ER
A man of the cloth and of God, committed the unthinkable, probably under the influence of the devil, when he battered his wife severely, kicked her in the head many times with his shoes on and then called 911 to report that his wife was choking him to death. The pastor is twice the size of his wife. Pastor Maxwell Asenso of the Word of Life Gospel Church was put behind bars for 2 days on Wednesday July 1, 2009 and released pending prosecution after his wife was rushed to the Shady Grove Emergency Room in Maryland with severe injuries to her head. She lodged a formal complaint at a Potomac police station after she was discharged from the hospital that not only had the pastor verbally and physically abused her with his fists he also kicked her in the head several times causing a severe concussion.
VRA To Generate 50mw Power From Wind Farm
The Volta River Authority (VRA) says it has positioned itself to contain the over 10 per cent increase in power consumption in the country, by stepping up its power generation capacity, and thus anticipates no power problems this and subsequent years to come. Ing. I. Kirk Koffi, Deputy Chief Executive, Engineering & Operations at VRA, who spoke to The Chronicle on the sidelines of a three-day work shop on Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) financing in Accra last week, hinted that the VRA was considering a wind farm project to add to their portfolio, and expected to be able to generate an additional 50 megawatts of power.
Kwesi Pratt: The Attorney General Is Wrong
The managing editor of the Insight newspaper, Mr. Kwesi Pratt has called on the Attorney General, Mrs. Betty Mould Iddrisu to retract her statement that the former Minister of Youth and Sports, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak cannot be prosecuted since he had done nothing wrong and had been cleared of all corruption charges.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show, Mr. Pratt said although he was not asking the Attorney-General to prosecute Hon Muntaka, he was of the opinion that she should not deny that the former Minister is guilty of some of the crimes. According to him, Hon. Mubarak himself admitted to using state money to finance his girlfriend’s trip to Germany and Cote d’Ivoire and also bought pampers and mouth gaggle for his baby. He added that Hon. Muntaka faked his girlfriend’s identity and passport by changing documents to make it look like she was working at the Sports Ministry which he used to defraud the German Embassy to acquire a visa for her – and that alone, he said, smacks of fraud, and therefore warrants prosecution. Mr Pratt was speaking about today’s Independent newspaper lead story captioned, “Muntaka Won’t Face Court”.
Hawkers bouncing back onto the streets
Hawkers who are being driven off the streets are said to be gradually returning onto the streets and pavements of the capital. Joy News reporter David Youngs visited some streets in the capital and reported the authorities are struggling to deal with the situation. At the Tudu, CMB, the Rawlings Circle, and the Tema Station areas – all in the central business district of Accra – police, fire and prison officers as well as AMA city guards are still struggling to check the hawkers off the streets. Although these hawkers were driven away by the AMA they have found a new way to ply their trade.
