Pulling Down Houses Not An Answer To The Flooding In Accra
I am compelled to write to you on this one because frankly I see NADMO as a useless national organization as it is constituted now and as it has always been. I have written about this before in the Ghanaian press and also in the international press during the NPP’s 8 years rule. You have headed this organization before, and you didn’t do a particularly good job. Not many people get a second chance after messing up but you have it now. So let’s see a proactive NADMO, more responsive and forward looking. I am particularly dismayed at why you were selected to head an organization yo have headed before and did not have a track record of success. We need people with fresh thinking and innovative ideas.

You are correct. In addition to all that has been said, AMA needs to halt the sale of water sachets immediately. Under Kufour’s regime attempt was made to halt the sale. What happened? The plastic waste is hugely to blame for most of the drainage blockage.
In fact this is terible for ghana, where is the money goes, my opinion is, i think all the plots in ghana the govnorment have to sell them to repair the roads and the gutters.
Demolition of houses that have not been passed and creating this problem should not be negotiable. i believe that it is part of the solution. clearly over population of the aera is another aspect. the infrastructure cannot cope with the services. There should be a programme of development in the regions to enable people to settle and prosper in their areas.
Therefore drainage alone is not the answer. Think of the litter, toilet facilities, housing etc, etc, etc……
Global warming is now a reality for all of us. The only way through this process is to take a proper scientific and environment transparent study of the city’s utilities, water, transport, housing and development. That plan can be placed on public display for community consultation, followed by the release of a final plan. This is less about political ping pong and more about apply the proper process in order to stop the blame games. At the turn of the last century the pan african visionaries were caught with the complex problem of modernization as well as looking back and retaining and honouring traditions. Modernisation is not just about bricks and mortar, tearing down and rebuilding. It is about the modernisation of the mind. In short, education of the masses, which includes all levels of government. Perhaps the heart of the problem is found in the questions we are asking. Rather than reacting the situations, perhaps we need to think the problem out and offer a better solution. My question is simple. Is there an environmental study available for public scrutiny, which details the problems, and options for resolution. Don’t show me the money. Show me the data.
