Victims of Keta tidal waves yet to receive help

Residents of Keta in the Volta Region who have been hit by tidal waves in the last week say they are yet to receive any assistance or relief items, despite claims by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) that the organization has dispatched relief items to the area.  Citi News reporters on the ground at Keta and surrounding areas discovered that most of the residents who have suffered losses as a result of the tidal waves have been going without shelter and food for days after the disaster.

Ghanaian wins top International Award

A thirty-four year old Ghanaian, Mr James Kofi Annan, has been honoured with one of the most prestigious awards in the world, the Frederick Douglas Freedom Award.
Mr Annan was bundled into servitude at the age of six, working 17 hours a day in some of Ghana’s fishing communities for seven years, during which he was subjected to continuous abuse without food and shelter.  The Freedom Award, which was instituted by the John Templeton Foundation, would be presented to Mr Annan by Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa, the 1984 and 2007 Gandhi Peace Prize and 2007 Nobel Peace Prize award winner, on September 15, 2008 in Los Angeles, California.

Kufuor’s convoy in accident

Reports reaching Citi News say the convoy of President Kufuor has been involved in yet another accident this morning Tuesday September 9, 2008 in the Ashanti region.  Eyewitnesses say the vehicles were negotiating a curve at top speed when the driver of one of the vehicles lost control and crashed into the woods.
