Police fire tear gas at crowd in Asabee case

Posted by Business in Ghana on August 14, 2009

The former Information Minister, Hon. Asamoah Boateng is reported to have been arrested and locked in the BNI Cells pending further investigations. Peace FM sources say he went to the BNI headquarters in the morning, together with his wife and two lawyers, but the security personnel drove them away and locked him in their cells.  Our reporter, Obeng Manu disclosed that there was no sign of releasing the victim. According to him, the BNI on two different occasions prevented Mr. Asamoah Boateng and his family from travelling abroad without a reason, so the latter had gone to inquire.

Hon. Asabee and his family have been hounded, harassed, traumatised and victimised by the BNI. Why was he arrested and detained before being charged? What are the charges? A person is innocent until proven guilty. Why were live bullets fired at the demonstrators? Are we in a police state? Why was he refused legal counsel? This is an abuse of power and of this family’s fundamental human rights. Why did the BNI officials manhandle and assault Zuleika Asamoah Boateng? I hope the incident was recorded. Challenge BNI.

if the so-called law professor is bent on turning the country into anarchy, so be it. what a shame and disgrace on education. ghanaians will continue to make mistakes and regret all the time. there was no way to have allowed this ndc to have power, they don’t know how to use it.

This is unfortunate, it seems to me as if the NDC government is loosing focus on its core value of the electorate mandate. To my understanding their policy is you do me i do you forgetting power is not is not a permanent tool. Please let us watch how events unfold.

  4. There is obviously a lot to know about this. There are some good points here.
