IMANI in top 25 most innovative policy think tanks in the world

Posted by Business in Ghana on January 25, 2011

Out of a total 6,480 think tanks from 169 countries, IMANI was the only African think tank ranked among the top 25 think tanks with the most innovative policy ideas around the world.  Again IMANI is one of only four African think tanks named in the top 75 global leading think tanks, and for the third time running, IMANI was ranked one of top 25 think tanks in sub-Saharan Africa.

The “2010 Global Go-To think tanks” report, a joint University of Pennsylvania–United Nations University index was released on January 18, 2011 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.  The report in its fourth year is an initiative of The Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program under the International Relations Program at the University of Pennsylvania.

According to the program’s director, James G. McGann, Ph.D., “the primary objective of the rankings is to recognize some of the leading public policy think tanks in the world and highlight the important contributions these organizations are making to governments and civil societies around the world.”

In an interview with Joy FM, an Accra-based radio station with global reach, Founding Director of IMANI, Mr. Franklin Cudjoe said the ranking was a significant morale booster in the organisation’s quest to deepen public accountability and reducing waste in government, amidst running on annual shoe string budget.

Mr. Cudjoe stated that rival think tanks were 25 times better funded whilst IMANI’s Independence relies on limited individual and foundational support.  Mr. Cudjoe called on called on all Ghanaians and Africans in general looking for temporary sanity in the confused policy space to consider investing in IMANI.
