Dynamic, smart and independent women who speak up and challenge the status quo are frowned upon by their communities and ostracised as bad women who do not know their place.  Several Ghanaians who do not want to be associated with this condemned behaviour,  withhold their support and lash out at those they perceive as bringing good women into disrepute. This is most unfortunate, backward and primitive. Murder by Old Gang Rival in Leyton

On 29 November 2010, Sylvester Senyah, aged 33 a British gentleman of Ghanaian origin was stabbed to death outside a Caribbean restaurant in Leyton by an old gang rival, Simeon Smith who is now 34 years old, the Old Bailey has heard.

The parents of Sylvester Senyah, who have maintained a dignified silence since the murder shed several tears as the jury returned a verdict of GUILTY, yesterday, 23 June, 2011. This was soon after the verdict was returned in the Milly Dowler trial in an adjacent court room, Court No. 8.

Sylvester Senyah, also known as “Twiggy” , was attacked by two men as he carried his food back to his parked car in Capworth Street, Leyton, East London. The court heard that he was on his way to pick up his 10 year old son from school. Read the rest of this entry »

Illicit Drugs And Politics – The Way Forward Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea

I have been extremely fascinated by developments over the past week in Ghana with regard to illicit drugs and Politicians.

On the one hand, in the red corner, we have heard the indefatigable and formidable lawyer and politician, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo stating categorically that he has never done drugs and in the blue corner, Hon. Ama Benyiwa Doe MP, Minster for Central Region stating that all NPP members are drug peddlers.  What is the perception of Ghanaians abroad?

Our community based radio stations in London, in particular Focus Radio were jammed with callers asking Nana to provide a medical report to silence his critics such as the controversial maverick politician/comic Kofi Wayo called for proof of Nana’s assertion by way of blood test and current medical report.  Medical reports are confidential in the UK. Afriquiyah Airlines ad Human Rights Abuse in Libya

Afriquiyah Airlines is owned by the Libyans.  Ghanaians love to fly with that airline because it is probably one of the cheapest from London to Accra and from Accra to London. They advertise extensively on our local radio stations here in London.   My younger brother, Henry Djaba  Junior and his girlfriend went to Tripoli on 4 August 2009 via that airline.  His story is in all the national and local newspapers here in London.
